Discover the legacy of Sol LeWitt – pioneer of Minimalism and Conceptual art – like never before. In collaboration with Microsoft, the Sol LeWitt Estate has leveraged world-class technology like artificial intelligence (AI) to allow audiences the opportunity to explore the life, process, and works of LeWitt in incredible detail.
Go beyond a museum visit or the pages of your art history book. The Sol LeWitt app brings his art to life:
Scan a Wall Drawing: Visit select LeWitt artworks across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Use your iPhone’s camera to scan them and learn more about that piece and the process behind its creation and installation.
Virtual Studio Tour: An interactive, 360-degree look at LeWitt’s studio in Chester, Connecticut, which is usually closed to the public. Move your iPhone around to explore, and click on various objects to learn more about each one.
Mapping LeWitt: Explore LeWitt's life within a map-driven timeline to see his global influence. Each entry includes an in-depth article with images and media provided by the LeWitt Estate. Enable your iPhone’s GPS to see how far you are from the closest scannable artwork.
Work Themes: A collection of rich-media articles highlighting 6 of LeWitt's work themes and featuring never-before-seen audio, video, and sketches from LeWitt himself. Learn more about how and why he focused his work on themes of Seriality, Lines & Bands, Geometric & Isometric, Locations, Continuous & Complex Forms, and Curvy & Loopy.
The Sol LeWitt App is written and curated by Lindsay Aveilhé, editor of the catalogue raisonné Sol LeWitt Wall Drawings.
